What you need
The Superheat H1C is a water heater that runs on Bitcoin mining chips. The same electricity that heats your water also earns mining rewards, and you manage all of it from the Superheat app on your phone. For background on how that works, see About Superheat.
Setup is short once the heater is installed. The app says the connection step "will take a few minutes," and most of that is the heater and Superheat's servers finding each other.
What comes with the heater
The H1C is a tank-style unit with a 50-gallon (190-liter) capacity. Check the printed material that shipped with your unit for the full packing list and the installation instructions your installer will need.
Somewhere on the body of the unit is a label with two things you will need in a few minutes:
- A QR code, which the app reads with your phone's camera.
- A serial number, which you can type in by hand instead. It looks like this:
SH-H1OXXAAA-2512-0001
Photograph that label before the heater is pushed into its final position. Once the unit is against a wall or in a closet, the label can be awkward to reach, and you will want the serial number again if you ever contact support.
What the heater needs
Three conditions have to be true before the app can find your heater. All three, not two.
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| A finished installation | The H1C installs much like a standard electric tank water heater: water in, water out, and its own electrical supply. Have a licensed installer handle it. |
| Power, on | The heater must be powered on and running before you start pairing. The app has no power switch and cannot turn the heater on for you. |
| A wired network connection | An Ethernet cable has to run from the heater to your router or a network switch. |
That last one is worth reading twice. The H1C connects to your network over Ethernet only. The app does not set up Wi-Fi and does not pair over Bluetooth, so a heater sitting next to a strong Wi-Fi signal with no cable plugged in will never appear in the app. If the heater is far from your router, plan for a long cable, a powerline adapter, or a switch nearby.
A heater that is offline is not mining, and a heater that is not mining is not earning. The Ethernet cable is not a convenience.
What you need
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| A phone | iPhone or Android, with the Superheat app installed. |
| An email address or a Google account | Either one signs you in. There is no password to create. |

| A Bitcoin address | Not needed today, but nothing gets paid out until you add one. See Add your wallet. |
What happens next
- Create your account — sign in, and choose the temperature unit and currency the app displays.
- Pair your heater — scan the QR code, confirm the unit, and wait for it to connect.
