Status and alerts
Your H1C sends the app a steady stream of readings. The most recent one becomes a single status word under the device name on the Home tab, and, when something is wrong, a colored banner across the device picture.
Where status appears
- Under the device name at the top of the Home tab, as a colored dot and a word.
- Beside every heater in the device list, which you open by tapping the device name.
- On the first row of Home Summary, next to the number of heaters you own. That row counts the heaters in each state that is not healthy, shortening Needs attention to Attention. When none of your heaters is in trouble, it shows Healthy instead.
The five statuses
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy | Your heater is reporting normally and no faults are active. | Nothing. |
| Needs attention | Something is wrong, but hot water is unaffected. Mining is paused and backup heating covers the hot water. | Read the banner. If it does not clear on its own, contact support. |
| Critical | A serious fault was found. Your heater has disabled heating for safety. | Contact support. Do not open the unit. |
| Offline | The last reading the app has is more than 60 seconds old. | Check that the heater has power and that the ethernet cable is connected at both ends. |
| Inactive | The heater is registered to you but is not activated. | Contact support if this does not clear shortly after setup. |
The app works through those in order. A heater that is not active shows Inactive, whatever else may be true. A heater that has not reported recently shows Offline. Only a heater that is active and reporting gets classified by its faults, and a critical fault always outranks one that needs attention.
The alert banner
When the status is Critical or Needs attention, a banner appears across the bottom of the device picture on the Home tab. It has two lines.
The first line names the fault group, for example Mining module offline or Heating element failure. If more than one critical fault group is active at once, the first line reads Multiple critical failures instead.
The second line tells you what it means for your hot water, and there are only two possibilities:
| Banner color | Second line | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| Red (critical) | "Heating has been disabled for safety" | Your heater has stopped heating. You will run out of hot water. |
| Amber (needs attention) | "Hot water is on, but mining is paused" | Water is still being heated by the backup element. Mining, and so earning, has stopped. |
Every fault group and the statuses it produces are listed in the Status reference.
Muting an alarm
A few faults sound a buzzer on the unit itself. When one of those is active, a round speaker button appears at the right end of the alert banner. It is only ever there while the banner is showing.
- Tap the speaker button.
- The app sends the instruction and then waits for your heater to confirm. This can take several seconds.
- If the heater never confirms, the app shows Failed to mute alert. Try again once it is reporting normally.
Tapping the button again turns the buzzer back on.
Muting silences the sound on the unit. It does not clear the fault, and it does not restore heating on a critical fault. The banner stays until the underlying problem is fixed.
Being told without opening the app
You can have device faults sent to you by email and as push notifications, and every alert is also kept in the app's inbox. See Notifications.
When to contact support
Contact support for any Critical status, for a Needs attention status that is still there the next day, and for anything you do not recognize. Include your serial number, which you will find on the About page. See Support for how to reach the team.
